Wee fat mess

Heading to Ukraine early April for 6 days. Going on the church partnership visit to Volochisk. I’m going a day early to meet with the YFC Ukraine staff in Kiev to finalise camp preparations. Will hopefully also get to go to Xhmelnitsky for the day! Looking forward to seeing nella in Volochisk (the kid in the picture with me!) Stu nicknamed her wee fat mess in the summer! She’s a cool wee kid!

Back to college...

Started back to college today, weird being back after so long, especially as everyone had been on placement either at home or internationally- I arrived to a frenzy of people embracing and chatting. Had to pick my classes was a tad annoyed as in the end I didn’t get a choice- because I didn’t take a bible based class last year I have to take one this year. So I’m taking- Exploring the Jewish world and biblical discipleship as well as my placement with the church. Also no 9am starts which is always good!

Money money money...

We raised a further £1386.67 for Ukraine in Marks and Spencer’s yesterday- Slava Bogu! Although there is a story to tell… A few of us counted the money at the church, we had nearly finished counting it when I realised that there weren’t as many euro coins as I remembered seeing in the buckets at Marks and Spencer’s. At that point I was going to go back and look in the car or phone M & S but didn’t. So the total was announced- £1060.57. Ill admit was slightly disappointed as was less than usual for a bag pack. Everyone went home, I was packing up the boot- only to find another bucket! Went home counted it and Slava Bogu there was £300ish quid! Thank you to all who came and helped!

No more YFC...

Well today marked my final day of placement at YFC northern Ireland- I’ve spent my time helping with the organisation of Summerserve which has both inspired me and given me the determination to see the Ukraine project grow in size and to reach out beyond Ukraine into other countries.
It has however felt like I have had 3 or 4 jobs at the same time over the last 6 weeks what with YFC, organising Ukraine, working in Carphone Warehouse along with other stuff so it’ll be good to get back to college next week and have a bit more free time.

A Polish caller

The doorbell rang tonight and I was sent to answer it. I was greeted by a man, who's opening words were "Im from Poland, I sell pictures" He was dressed like someone I would have met in Ukraine. He has spent the last few days walking along the roads near my house calling at houses to sell pictures. He said he lived in Belfast but his english was'nt very good to explain much more. It saddens my heart to think that a guy from Poland is walking the roads (esp my roads as I live in the middle of nowhere!) in the dark and cold to sell pictures for a living. What a world!

The life less ordinary...

After giving into a little peer pressure. My life on a blogspot it back. A little update since my last blog: I was working as a class room assistant in Belvior primary school. Since then I have worked for o2, Bavarian Garages and am now currently working for The carphone warehouse and studying at Belfast Bible College.
Now im on my last week of a 6 week placement at YFC northern ireland in which I was helping with summerserve and giving and receiving abuse from Mr Pete Martin!
